Laten we beginnen met geweldig nieuws: onze eigen kantine is een feit en de tweede seizoenshelft draait! Dit weekend is de eerste volledige speelronde in de Geusselt, kom langs voor een drankje en gezelligheid. Laten we deze positieve flow vasthouden met jullie hulp.

Opvolging Bestuur: Noodkreet voor Kimbria!
Dan een serieuzer bericht. Het hele bestuur treedt na dit seizoen af. Tim, Ewoud en Stef stoppen onherroepelijk op 30 juni, met of zonder opvolgers. Alleen Hugo wil doorgaan als bestuurslid basketbalzaken, onder de juiste voorwaarden. Niemand heeft nog concreet ‘ja’ gezegd en juni nadert snel. Organisatorisch en financieel staat onze basis ijzersterk, met voor het eerst een eigen kantine. Het zou enorm jammer zijn dit succes nu te verliezen door gebrek aan opvolging, want zonder nieuw bestuur stopt de club volledig.

Scheidsrechterstaken en Sancties: Jouw verantwoordelijkheid
De eerste helft van het seizoen heeft de scheidsrechterscommissie (Mike en Tim) heel veel tijd gestoken om te zorgen dat alle wedstrijden doorgang konden vinden. Tegelijkertijd is het niet altijd goed gegaan. Via deze nieuwsbrief willen we nog een keer de spelregels én de consequenties toelichten en aangeven dat de verantwoordelijkheid voor het hebben van scheidsrechters niet bij de commissie ligt, maar bij elk individu. Dit betekent ook dat deadlines vanaf nu gerespecteerd worden en dat de desbetreffende sanctie onherroepelijk zal worden doorgevoerd!

Regels voor Scheidsrechters

  • Wees uiterlijk 15 minuten voor de wedstrijd aanwezig met fluitje en scheidsrechters shirt (of neutraal grijs shirt). Te laat komen is niet acceptabel, zorg dat iedereen kan spelen.
  • Kan je niet fluiten? Regel zelf vervanging en meld dit uiterlijk 3 dagen van tevoren aan voorzitter@kimbria.nl én mikesmits86@live.nl.

Sancties bij overtreding
Niet komen opdagen zonder afmelding of geen vervanging:

  • 1e keer: officiële waarschuwing.
  • 2e keer: 2 wedstrijden schorsing (niet spelen).
  • 3e keer: royement uit de club.

Voor trainers en ouders
Trainers: deel het schema en herinner spelers wekelijks aan hun taken. 
Ouders: bespreek het belang met je kind, scheidsrechters zijn cruciaal voor wedstrijden.

Bij echte problemen denken we graag mee, maar wees zelf de eerste verantwoordelijke. Laten we sportief doorgaan!

Onze eigen kantine: een reusachtige stap!
Zoals eerder gezegd, dit weekend is onze eigen kantine open voor koffie, een pilsje, sportdrank, chips of tosti! De rest van het seizoen gaan we kijken hoe dit verloopt en maken dan de balans op. Speciale dank aan Angela, Niels en Jorge voor hun inzet de afgelopen weken om dit mogelijk te maken. Daarnaast willen we ook graag Roderick Ramaekers en Danny Deng bedanken voor hun bijdrage in de vorm van koffie en meubilair!

Samen maken we Kimbria sterker. Tot dit weekend!

Dear Kimbrianen,

Let’s start with great news: our own canteen is now a reality and the second half of the season is underway! This weekend features the first full round of games at De Geusselt,  come by for a drink and some socializing. Let’s keep this positive momentum going with your help.

Board Succession: Urgent call for Kimbria!
Now for a more serious message. The entire board will step down after this season. Tim, Ewoud, and Stef will irrevocably resign on June 30, with or without successors. Only Hugo wishes to continue as board member for basketball affairs, under the right conditions. No one has committed concretely yet, and June is approaching fast. Organizationally and financially, our foundation is rock-solid, with our own canteen for the first time. It would be a tremendous shame to lose this success due to lack of succession, without a new board, the club will cease to exist entirely. Are you interested, having questions, or want to learn more? Referee duties and sanctions: your responsibility
The referee committee (Mike and Tim) invested a huge amount of time in the first half of the season to ensure all games could proceed. However, not everything went smoothly. This newsletter clarifies the rules and consequences once more: responsibility for referees lies with each individual, not the committee. From now on, deadlines will be strictly enforced, and the relevant sanctions will be irrevocably applied!

Rules for referees

  • Be present at least 15 minutes before the game with a whistle and referee shirt (or neutral gray shirt). Arriving late is not acceptable, ensure everyone can play.
  • Unable to referee? Arrange a replacement yourself and notify voorzitter@kimbria.nl and mikesmits86@live.nl at least 3 days in advance.

Sanctions for violations
Failure to show up without notice or replacement:

  • 1st time: official warning.
  • 2nd time: 2-match suspension (no playing).
  • 3rd time: expulsion from the club.

For coaches and parents
Coaches: share the schedule and remind players of their duties weekly.
Parents: discuss the importance with your child, referees are crucial for games.
We’re happy to help with genuine issues, but you are the primary responsible party. Let’s keep it sportsmanlike!

Our own canteen: a giant leap forward!
As mentioned, our canteen opens this weekend for coffee, a beer, sports drink, chips, or a toasted sandwich! We’ll evaluate how it goes through the rest of the season. Special thanks to Angela, Niels, and Jorge for their efforts in making this possible. We’d also like to thank Roderick Ramaekers and Danny Deng for their contributions with coffee and furniture!

Together, we make Kimbria stronger. See you this weekend!

BC Kimbria origins – de KNP-zaal van Maasvogels

(English below)

Zoals vorige keer gezegd kun je op de foto vanaf de brug over het Bassin de KNP-zaal van Maasvogels zien liggen. Maar als je dat zelf wel eens wil zien dan moet je daar wel niet te lang mee wachten, want ze gaan hem afbreken. De gemeente wil de Maasboulevard verder gaan verlengen en dan ligt deze zaal (=de Affuitenloods) in de weg. Die Affuitenloods werd in 1825 gebouwd om de onderstellen van de kanonnen van het kortbij gelegen fort in op te slaan. 

Later nam de KNP de loods over en werd een deel ervan in gebruik als sportzaal voor de interne opleiding van de papieroperators. Grappig is dat meer dan honderd jaar na de opslag in die loods van de onderdelen van kanonnen, de basketballers er hun kanonskogels van afstandsschoten los lieten.

In de beginjaren was deze zaal voor Kimbria heel belangrijk. Er werd in getraind en ook werden er alle wedstrijden gespeeld. En dat ondanks de speciale eigenschappen die de zaal had. Het meest opvallende was wel dat er op zo’n drie meter hoogte drie zware eiken balken hingen: eentje in het midden en twee net boven de vrije worplijnen. Dus als je een vrije worp kreeg dan moest je even door de knieën gaan en tamelijk vlak schieten, want anders raakte je de balk. Op de foto is de balk heel goed zichtbaar. Overbodig om te zeggen dat een fast break met een lange pass natuurlijk echt niet mogelijk was. Afstandsschoten gebeurden door OVER de balk te schieten en die waren eigenlijk gedoemd om te mislukken.

Zoals ook te zien is lag er in de zaal een parketvloer, die meestal nogal glad was vanwege het stof dat er op lag. De zaal was heel klein en dus waren er geen buitenlijnen: de muur was “uit”. De jurytafel was een vensterbank waar het sheet en de klok op lagen. De wisselspelers stonden langs de kant en gelukkig was er vrijwel nooit publiek. Opvallend was ook dat als je van buiten kwam je meteen in de zaal stond als je door de buitendeur kwam!  De meneer met hoed helemaal links op de foto is dan ook net met “de deur in de zaal gevallen”. De spelers van de volgende wedstrijd, die zich wilden omkleden, moesten wachten tot er een aanval aan de andere kant was en dan snel oversteken.

Opvallend op de foto is ook nog dat er met een ECHTE leren bal gespeeld werd. Die waren niet veel zwaarder dan de huidige zogenaamde leren ballen. Maar toen we later op een buitenterrein gingen spelen werd hij bij regenweer werd echt wel veel zwaarder…

BC Kimbria origins – the KNP hall of Maasvogels

As mentioned last time, you can see the Maasvogels KNP hall in the photo from the bridge over the Bassin. But if you’d like to see it for yourself, you shouldn’t wait too long, because they’re going to demolish it. The municipality wants to extend the Maasboulevard further, and this hall (the Affuitenloods) will be in the way. The Affuitenloods was built in 1825 to store the cannon mounts from the nearby fort.

Later, the KNP took over the warehouse and used part of it as a sports hall for the internal training of the paper operators. Interestingly, more than a hundred years after the cannon parts were stored in that warehouse, the basketball players were launching their long-range cannonballs there.

In the early years, this hall was very important to Kimbria. Training was done there, and all matches were played there. And this despite the hall’s unique features. The most striking feature was the three heavy oak beams hanging about three meters high: one in the middle and two just above the free-throw lines. So, if you got a free throw, you had to bend your knees and shoot fairly flat, otherwise you’d hit the beam. The beam is clearly visible in the photo. Needless to say, a fast break with a long pass was, of course, simply impossible. Long shots were made by shooting OVER the beam, and those were practically doomed to fail.

As can also be seen, the hall had a parquet floor, which was usually quite slippery due to the dust. The hall was very small, so there were no outside lines: the wall was “outside.” The scorer’s table was a windowsill on which the scoresheet and clock rested. The substitutes stood on the sidelines, and thankfully, there were hardly any spectators. It was also striking that if you came from outside, you were immediately inside the hall as soon as you entered through the front door! The man with the hat on the far left in the photo has just “fallen out of the door.” The players for the next match, who wanted to change, had to wait until an attack on the other side and then quickly cross to the other side of the hall.

It’s also striking in the photo that they were playing with a REAL leather ball. Those weren’t much heavier than the current so-called leather balls. But when we later started playing outdoors, it became much heavier in rainy weather…

Er is nieuws over onze wachtlijst!

Om op de nieuwe wachtlijst te komen is het nodig voor iedereen om het formulier volledig in te vullen bij de onze website – https://www.kimbria.nl/inschrijfformulier-kimbria/

Wanneer dit is gelukt sta je direct in het nieuwe systeem van onze basketbalclub, aangemeld onder wachtlijst.

Het staat je vrij om 3 keer te komen proberen of het wat voor je is. 

Daarna wordt in overleg met de trainer je lidmaatschap actief, en kan je meetrainen en/of wedstrijden spelen.

Sommigen van jullie hebben lang gewacht en wellicht andere keuzes gemaakt.

Kom gerust langs! Als je nieuwsgierig bent of wil komen kijken.

Er is plaats in verschillende teams:

  • ⁠kinderen onder 8 jaar
  • ⁠kinderen onder 10 jaar
  • ⁠meiden onder 14 jaar
  • ⁠meiden onder 16 jaar
  • ⁠jongens onder 14 jaar
  • ⁠heren 2
  • recreanten

Once you’ve done this, you’ll be registered directly in our basketball club’s new system under “waiting list.”

You’re welcome to try it out up to three times to see if it’s right for you.

After that, your membership will be activated in consultation with the coach, and you can join us for practices and/or matches.

Some of you have waited a long time and may have made different choices.

Feel free to stop by! If you’re curious or want to come and see for yourself.

Nieuwsbericht van het bestuur

Beste leden van BC Kimbria,

Na drie jaar met veel inzet en toewijding voor onze vereniging actief te zijn geweest, heeft het merendeel van het huidige bestuur – te weten voorzitters Ewoud en Tim en penningmeester Stef – besloten om na afloop van dit seizoen terug te treden.

Hugo (basketbalzaken) beraadt zich nog op een positie binnen een nieuw bestuur. Hij heeft aangegeven onder een aantal harde voorwaarden deel te willen nemen aan een nieuw bestuur; daarnaast blijft hij zijn praktische inzet voor Kimbria voortzetten, met name als coach binnen de vereniging. Ook Tim blijft zich inzetten als lid van de scheidsrechters- en communicatiecommissie, en Ewoud blijft betrokken als trainer en coach.

We brengen dit nu tijdig onder jullie aandacht, zodat we samen voldoende tijd hebben om te zorgen voor een goede opvolging en een zorgvuldige overdracht.

Leden die interesse hebben om een rol te vervullen binnen het bestuur, of die iemand willen voordragen, worden van harte uitgenodigd zich te melden bij het huidige bestuur.

Dear members of BC Kimbria,

After three years of hard work and dedication to our association, the majority of the current board—namely chairmen Ewoud and Tim and treasurer Stef—have decided to step down at the end of this season.

Hugo (basketball affairs) is still considering a position on a new board. He has indicated that he is willing to participate in a new board under a number of strict conditions; in addition, he will continue his practical commitment to Kimbria, particularly as a coach within the club. Tim will also continue to serve as a member of the referee and communications committees, and Ewoud will remain involved as a trainer and coach.

We are bringing this to your attention now, in good time, so that we have sufficient time to ensure a smooth succession and a careful handover.

Members who are interested in taking on a role within the board, or who would like to nominate someone, are cordially invited to contact the current board.

BC Kimbria origins – De eerste training

Meteen nadat Kimbria op 12 september was opgericht werd al op 20 september de eerste training georganiseerd. Dat de leden eigenlijk allemaal nog op school  zaten blijkt uit onderstaande uitnodiging: 1) er werd getraind vanaf half zes tot zeven uur en 2) de leden moesten wél rekening houden met hun huiswerk…

Op het tekeningetje is volgens de secretaris gemakkelijk te zien waar de training wordt gehouden, maar dat bleek in de praktijk toch wel wat moeilijker te zijn. De zaal lag (en ligt) op het terrein van de papierfabriek en stond bekend als de KNP-zaal. De zaal was de thuishaven van Maasvogels, de bedrijfsvereniging van de papierfabriek, waar Kimbria ook gebruik van mocht maken. 

Om er te komen moest je volgens het tekeningetje over een “ophaalbrug” en dan naar de papierfabriek. In het verlengde van de Maasboulevard ligt die ophaalbrug er nu ook nog en vanaf de brug over het Bassin kun je  aan de rechterkant de restanten van de KNP-zaal nog zien liggen. Het lage gebouw was natuurlijk niet erg geschikt om er in te basketballen en lijkt in niets op de huidige sporthal de Geusselt.

BC Kimbria origins – the first training

Right after Kimbria was founded on September 12, the very first training was already held on September 20. The fact that all the members were still in school becomes pretty clear from the invitation:

  1. training took place from half past five to seven, and
  2. members had to take their homework into account!

According to the secretary, the little sketch made it “easy” to see where the training was held — though in reality, it turned out to be a bit trickier. The gym was (and still is) on the grounds of the paper factory, known as the KNP hall. It was actually the home court of Maasvogels, the factory’s sports club, and Kimbria was allowed to use it too.

To get there, you supposedly had to cross a “drawbridge” and head toward the paper factory. That same drawbridge still exists today at the end of the Maasboulevard, and from the bridge over the Bassin you can still spot the remains of the KNP hall on the right-hand side.

The low building wasn’t exactly ideal for playing basketball — it looked nothing like today’s Geusselt sports hall.
